Five Ways You Won’t Fall This Fall

Three days a week, I swim at 6am in the morning with my Master’s Swim Team. During the Summer season, we swim outside which has given us spectacular sunrises and picture perfect workout bliss. Today it was dark. Or shall I say darker. There was still some light. The white orb of the gorgeous last quarter Moon was still shining high in the sky with Venus glimmering bright near by. But it’s different.

Ah, it’s about that time. Time for seasonal change.

So let’s go through some easy ways to prepare ourselves for healthy change into sweater weather.

  1. Embrace the change. Bring a light jacket to work and take breaks during the day to be in the sunlight, check out and enjoy the color changing leaves, and have a hot soothing drink in hand. Try seasonal turmeric teas, or even simply hot water, fresh shaved ginger with lemon. Allow the body to adjust to the outdoor temperature change and shorter daylight hours.

  2. Add seasonal fruits and vegetables to your diet. In season local farm foods provide a multitude of vitamins and minerals plus taste great. Vegetables include different squashes, corn, eggplant, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, orange and red beets. Fruits include apples, cranberries, pears, figs, and pomegranate.

  3. Boost your immune system. Take additional supplements of Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex and probiotics. Fall weather brings us inside with less sun exposure and more flu exposure. So boost your body with either a multivitamin that contains the above or supplement with single doses. Be kind to that gut, a robust immune system starts in your belly. Plus, your white blood cells will thank you for the added help.

  4. Continue to stay active. The dark early evenings can put the kibosh on the after work walk, bike ride or pickleball game you enjoyed so much over the past couple of months. Shift into fun activities that you can do indoors or bundle up and light yourself up with reflective gear going outdoors. Staying active will keep your body and mind happy. Just make sure your energy is expended in a fun and enjoyable way!

  5. Pay attention to the energy shifts and take care of your energetic body. Our bodies are designed to be adaptable, but at the same time change can be stressful. Change can bring up low level vibrational frequencies of anger, fear, worry, shame, jealousy and may lead to depression and anxiety. Continue your energy hygiene routine with reiki, meditation, yoga, tapping, sound immersions and other energy medicine modalities. Keep your light even though the days are darker.

In Love and Light
